Custom blue leather for the 14270
There’s something unmistakable about a gloss black Rolex dial.
It’s become iconic through the Submariner, but it’s every bit as signature on the Explorer. This strap was built to complement that dial, not compete with it. A custom-dyed blue cowhide that’s deep, rich, and carries just the right amount of shine to mirror the gloss beneath the crystal.
The tone didn’t come easy. Blue is notoriously tricky to get right — too much green or purple, and it can throw off the whole look. But after rounds of testing and layering, this one landed in a sweet spot between royal and navy, with subtle shifts depending on the light. Two clear coats bring out the depth, and also make it tough enough to wear daily.
Because this Explorer isn’t just for summiting peaks — it’s just as at home relaxing or catching up with friends over espresso.. That’s the beauty of the 14270: it leans into whatever setting you throw at it. And this strap does the same.
Paired with worn-in blue jeans? Even better.
I think the color combo brings a jolt of personality without losing any polish - The gloss dial, the inky blue, the way it all feels just a little sharper than it should.
The strap’s curved ends and curved spring bars keeps everything case-safe as Rolex cases are well known for being harsh on straps.
It’s also been a while since an Explorer has been in the collection so it’s refreshing to have such a classic back in the watchbox.
